I am building an SJ 12 strings and I was thinking about set up even though I am not there yet. I need advice on slotting the nut and setting action via the saddle. Do I Slot each string depth at the nut base on the individual string size. So all slots will be different in each pair?? Also I usually have a slanted saddle height to allow for greater action with the low E vs high E.....obvious How do you the 12 string..... Should I just set it based on the 6 larger strings and proceed like always??? Andy |

Morning, Andy. I know nothing about your question, just thought I'd give you a lift back to the top of the thread. ![]() Ron |

you can take two approaches to setting up a 12, the generic or factory approach, or the skill and sanity bending individual string apprach. some time ago this question was asked and someone, perhaps dave posted a pic of an individually compensated saddle, and a beautiful bit of work it was too. most just use an average compensation approach and be done with it. if it can be said that no (six string) guitar is ever perfectly in tune up the neck, then it can be said at least doubly for a twelve, but an individually compensated saddle does help a lot. but if it is a client job few are willing to accept the price you have to charge to make any money out of it because it is very, very slow, tedious work. as for the nut, you can go the individual compensation route there too if you wish to spend even longer in therapy, but a conventional nut usually suffices. |
